Opportunities in Global Markets
Kinetic Cubed has produced a report on the
International Tradable Economy for the UK’s Insight East, which is a regional
organisation in the East of England. Insight East provides accurate data and
authoritative analysis on the important trends and issues facing the region. The
international team, led by Mark Beresford, one of Kinetic Cubed’s co-founders and
directors, comprised emerging markets and service sector specialists.
Glenn Athey, Director of Insight East said. “The
report shows that the East of England punches above its weight compared to the
rest of the UK in terms of how we compete internationally. But, because of
the recession and the historically weak dollar, companies here need to sharpen
their competitive edge to trade in still-significant European markets and the
US. They need to punch harder and increase their reach further to gain new
deals and keep the existing ones.”

International Knowledge Sourcing for Innovation
Kinetic Cubed is featured as a case study in a
high profile report published by Nesta. Drawing knowledge from external sources
in the UK, or internationally, has become increasingly important to small and
medium-sized firms (SMEs). SMEs cannot generate all they need to know to develop
new products and processes within their own companies and they need to look
elsewhere for new ideas and expertise. This practice is known as knowledge
sourcing.
This report provides a detailed review of
patterns of knowledge sourcing and the key factors influencing these patterns,
particularly from a small business perspective. Kinetic Cubed is a niche
provider of internationalisation consultancy, based in the Northwest of
England, but with a global presence through innovative partnerships in Europe,
the US and Asia. It practices international knowledge sourcing and uses this as
a source of competitive advantage to better service its international
client base.

Clean Technology and Chemicals in France
The City region of Lyon in France has one of the most sophisticated research bases and supply chains in
Europe in the clean technology areas. Kinetic Cubed has been working with the City's inward investment
agency, Aderly, to identify UK companies in the sector that are potentially interested in
expanding into Europe. The work has focused on
the northern parts of the UK
and has involved high value added, lead generation activities in the
North West and North East of England.
Aderly has just made its third business development trip to the UK to meet some of the exciting
companies that Kinetic Cubed's team have uncovered. The French cluster Axelera
is holding its annual international event on September 9th 2010 to showcase its capacity and capability and
a number of UK firms with an interest in France identified by Kinetic Cubed will
participate.

Innovation Update
The North West Development Agency's Innovation Voucher Scheme (for more
information go to:
www.nwdabusinessfinance.co.uk/innovationvouchers) after
almost two successful years is coming to an end as a result of the scaling back
of funding from the NWDA.
This scheme has allowed Kinetic Cubed, as one of the pre-selected knowledge
providers, to help over 20 different companies to develop their business to look
at new business models, markets and strategy.
The scheme was designed to raise the
innovation eco-system of the North
West
by awarding a voucher of between £3000 and £7000 to SME's in the region to
connect with the knowledge base to work on an innovation led project.
If you would like to find out more about the scheme then please email Gaynor

Brussels
Kinetic Cubed, a resident company of InfoLab21,
has signed a deal with the Invest in Brussels
agency to help attract inward investment from the
UK
into the Brussels City region.
The deal further increases the InfoLab21 and Northwest based company's presence
in Europe and represents a significant new business opportunity to work
intensively with Invest in Brussels to attract UK based ICT companies and
organisations looking to expand into the Brussels and European market.
Director Mark Beresford highlights three
key reasons why UK ICT companies should consider Brussels as a cost effective location to base
their operations from:
- Brussels is home to many major global blue chip
corporations and also provides a relatively low cost gateway to new business
opportunities in the wider Benelux
and European markets
- Brussels is unique in assembling many of the key
economic and political decision makers from important institutions such as the
EU, NATO, NGOs, and think tanks
- Brussels has a track record of being one of the most
innovative places in Europe
to do business. Sectors such as Professional and Financial Services, ICT,
Healthcare / Bio and Energy and Environment are highly developed
Mark says; "The ICT sector is extremely dynamic
in Brussels, generating about one-third of
Belgium's global ICT activities. This upward
trend is bolstered by a series of favourable elements such as: a strong demand in
the local market, a close collaboration between businesses and academia, a high
concentration of ICT activities in a small area and the complete, proactive
support of regional authorities."
Examples of ICT companies that have taken
advantage of the business opportunities that Brussels can provide include:
-
An ICT consultancy serving major corporations with international
communications networks
-
A company that develops and markets software tools that help
organisations to reduce costs, save time and successfully manage their IT
networks from beginning to end
-
A global company providing customised enterprise solutions with
expertise in private networks, global Tier-1 Internet backbone and related ICT
solutions to enterprises worldwide
-
A major player in the provision of threat detection and screening
technologies for Military, Transportation, Homeland Security and Resilience
applications
In addition, Invest in Brussels can provide UK
ICT companies and organisations that have the intention to set up in the city
with incubator facilities for the first three months, help with business and
financial plans, risk assessments, marketing and services support, and will
provide the new venture with an important platform for launching the business.
